NOOHN in ENGLISH

Since we already have quite some international customers and visitors on our website.... And since we feel we want to share our wonderful collection not only to the Dutch.... And since we think many more people might like what we are showing..... we have been working really hard to have the NOOHN site not only in Dutch, but also in english! So we invite everybody to take a look at NOOHN | english ..... and we hope you will enjoy al  the designs, colors, and materials as much as we do. Have fun!

Mode Marché

Last Saturday NOOHN presented a selection of blankets at the Mode Marché in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg (theater). On the actual stage a wide variety of young Dutch designers showed their collection to the audience. NOOHN had a fantastic response, featuring products of Zuzunaga, Mae Engelgeer, Hay, MeS, Fabric Copenhagen and much more. A cuddle rack, very colorful, warm and soft!

Today Margot Weyer send me these wonderful little 'still lives'. 'If you like them you can place them on your NOOHN blog' she said. I like! They give a little insight in her work: daily life materials re-used and re-shaped into small paintings. So delicate and atmospheric, each telling little tales.  Just as the objects of her Streetcombing project: as-found materials placed in a new context. I cannot help to wonder about their origin and owner? Just visit her blog and see for yourself....makes you want to grab your coat and go out to find stuff....

Proud as we are we think this website shows the most beautiful collection of blankets from all over the world: Iceland, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Colombia, the Netherlands and England. NOOHN - the blanket store - is online. The website is up and running. Exactly one year ago the first ideas came to mind of opening an online blanket store. And now here it is: NOOHN! A wonderful collection of national and international labels. All special and unique because of their design, quality and materials. But one thing all designers and producers have in common: LOVE. Love for their design, love for their product. And this you can see and feel.

Suzanne Tidwell - Seattle's Occidental Park

Suzanne Tidwells  is a fiber artist working primarily in the Seattle area. Her Yarn Bombing project in Seattle's Occidental Park started when she was invited by Seatlle Parks & Recreation  to be a contributing artist in their summer ARTSparks Program. She was given the permission to wrap almost everything inside the park, except for the existing sculptures, totem poles and trash cans! 

Suzanne on her turn invited all of her knitting friends to start knitting 'the color palette of warm summer stripes (purlple, red, orange, yellow and pink)'.

Looking for Sarah ...

Sarah Applebaum lives and works in San Fransisco. 'Her work bridges the gap between the psychological and the psychedelic, bringing freedom and an exploratory ethos to the art making process'. Often she 'weaves' her own person in the art installation, becoming one with her handmade knittet artwork.

Comfortable wood

'It looks and smells familiar but feels strange, as it is able to move and form in unexpected ways' - This wonderful plaid is part of the 'Wooden Textiles' collection by Elisa Strozyk, a textile designer from Berlin. The blanket is half wood-half textile and can be shaped in all different ways ...... like a blanket. (Photos by Sebastian Neeb)

The making of ....

To be a model for a day, what a treat! Photography was done by my dear friend Chantal Ariëns, who I know since we were 8 years old. Hair and makeup by Astrid Timmer. 

Proud merino

The Merino is originally from a Berber tribe in the North of Africa. Because of the many folds in the skin sheep can produce up to ten pounds of wool per year. The structure of the wool is so special because per square centimeter up to 10 times more hair grows than with the average sheep. That gives the wool its very soft texture.
